ONCE - beautiful movie AND music
This movie was a surprise. I bought it because it looked like it might have some good music. And it did, I bought and downloaded the album straight away. I’ll be listening to this for a few weeks. But the movie itself is also uplifting and sad and touching, and I’m sure anyone who has been in love will relate to it. It’s a basic story of a struggling lonely musician, recovering from a bad relationship, who is befriended by a girlie musician with a kid and her own past to deal with. They form an instant connection but are both still emotionally tied to their previous partners. From there it’s a stop start intimate and uncomfortable friendship that could be more. I loved the story, I loved the music. What amazed me is that the actors are musicians who gave acting a shot. So is the director. The result is a fly on the wall, very natural emotional ride. Even Steven Spielberg said this movie gave him enough inspiration to last a year. Ditto. Watch it.
The main character is played by talented musian Glen Hansard and I love his music, particularly two which really struck a chord - Falling Slowly (lyrics) and All the Way Down (lyrics). Wow.
As a note Falling Slowly won best original song at the oscars and you can see the two musicians and actors receiving their award here - two very humble cool people. And great accents.
