The power of words

Have just been thinking about my life over the last year or so. Artists and like minded freaks (everyone?) do that often. Has really struck me what power the things we say have, and how crucial it is to say exactly what you mean … if you should even say anything at all. My mum always used to say from a Christian point of view - ‘words have power’. So I was always wary of saying things like ‘God I feel like dying’… But even in general conversation everything you say matters. Relationships survive on words, everything said is consumed by the listener, even the smallest remarks subconciously. Without even being able to pinpoint the cause, a friendship can wilt. I think I’ve been guilty of … talking - almost listening to what I say as I say it. Then thinking that’s not how I feel at all… but it’s done. So my advice to myself and others for 2007 … treat words like gold. They can nurture a special bond, and they can cut it off and leave you wondering where things came unstuck.
